Our Core Beliefs

It's Never Too
Late to Start

Strong People Make Strong Communities

We Train for Life

Starting a journey of health and wellness can be daunting. Given the impact of training on your physical and mental health, we want to make the process accessible to as many people as we can. To that end, we will give you the tools to help yourself, regardless of your starting point.

Community involvement means taking care of our friends and loved ones when they need it most. Being physically and mentally resilient makes us ready to help when it is needed. We want to not only give you these skills, but actively engage with our community in productive, far-reaching ways.

We train because life is physically and mentally demanding, and we need to be ready. Building strength and resilience makes everyday tasks easier, allows us to explore new activities and adventures with confidence, and keeps us independent during our later years.

Our Home

United Strength & Wellness opened its doors in March of 2020 under the ownership of Jordan Rouse and Elyse Owen. With the mission of promoting strength training to everyday people, the coaches hope to instil resilience and self-efficacy into their community. The 1200 square foot private training studio is equipped with 5 lifting platforms, a rower, an assault bike, sleds, an open turf area, and more. Under the semi-private training service, members get access to their own training station, individualized programming tailored to their goals and training history, and coach supervision so everyone can reach their goals as a team.

FAQ

Not at all, in fact our specialty is introducing people to lifting. We do require new semi-private members to take our Introduction to Lifting course, which is free when you commit to the month.

No, we do monthly payments at the beginning of the month with no contracts. Feel free to cancel at any time.

Does everyone need a coach? Absolutely not. People are robust and adaptable to a variety of stressors, so we encourage everyone to start training even if they do not have access to a coach. However, a qualified coach can be an excellent resource for everyone for a few reasons:

(1) Starting on the right foot: With so much information out there it can feel impossible to know where to start on this journey. A coach can take the guesswork out of this process, teaching you the fundamental principles of training, saving time, effort, and frustration.

(2) Form and Exercise Selection: We want you to get the most out of your training because we understand that your time is valuable. Understanding the principles of efficient form and choosing exercises that match your goals are a coach’s speciality. A coach will assess your needs and progress, making appropriate changes to make sure your training is working for you.

(3) Reducing Risk of Injury: Injuries happen, but a coach’s job is to reduce the risk of injury to the best of their abilities. This includes proper exercise selection based on your goals, appropriately dosed training load over time, and day to day adjustments based on your physical and mental readiness to train.

Yes! One of the roles of a coach is to help people work through injuries and ailments, within our scope of practice. Our staff will not attempt to diagnose or treat an illness or injury. If a condition needs assessment, we refer people to our network of qualified physiotherapists and doctors and work together with these specialists. Once the individual is cleared, a coach will formulate a program that is both safe and appropriate for the individual to help get them back on track.

To ensure the safety of our community, all members are asked to complete a Medical History Review Form before they start with a coach. We want to fully understand each person’s specific case to make sure we can offer the highest quality of service in a safe manner.

Absolutely! The National Strength and Conditioning Association outlines that resistance training can combat the natural loss of strength and muscle mass, improve functionality and mobility, and improve overall physical well-being and quality of life. Working with a coach can further develop your confidence in training, resulting in personal independence and reduced injury risk from falls. Programs can be adapted to the needs of anyone, including those with cognitive impairments, chronic conditions, or mobility limitations. United Strength and Wellness is an accessible facility and can accommodate the use of many assisted devices.

Absolutely! Resistance training for youth is recommended by the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology, the American Pediatrics Association, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Properly prescribed training plays a major role in the development of body awareness, motor skills, coordination, injury risk, bone mineral density, and body composition. Appropriately delivered training also promotes improvements in self-esteem and confidence, which is immensely important in youth.

Significant muscle gain or ‘bulking’ only occurs when people work very hard for that specific goal, not by simply lifting weights. Many specific factors like diet and training volume go into muscle growth and it does not occur by accident. Our coaches will outline these factors for you in your personalized programs to make sure you reach your goals without any unintended results.

Yes, our coaches are passionate about all aspects of personal wellness and are qualified in nutritional counseling. We understand that there is no one size fits all approach to nutrition, so we make sure to give you practical advice to match your lifestyle and goals. These interventions can include day to day lifestyle changes, counselling on meal preparation, food tracking, and caloric intake and macronutrient suggestions. This information will be summarized in a simplified handout, which your coaches are always happy to expand upon at your request.

Words from Our Community

Strength has skyrocketed and pain is down

As a recent father of twins I needed something to get my fitness level back up. A mutual friend of ours told me to reach out to Jordan Rouse. Jordan has changed my perspective on what training looks like. He has taken me from someone who was scared to do certain exercises due to back pain to someone who rarely has back pain. My strength has skyrocketed and my waistline has gone down 3-4 inches. Family members have taken notice of these changes which has resulted in my father seeing Jordan as well. I cant say enough about how great Jordan is as a trainer. Try him out!

Comfortable, fun environment

Jordan is everything you want in a trainer. As someone who had zero experience lifting/strength training prior, he has really changed the fitness game for me. He has made it a comfortable, fun environment and personalizes every workout to best suit your needs and goals.

The Place to Go!

I can’t speak more highly of Jordan and Bayridge Barbell. He is extremely well educated and makes training fun. As someone who has always struggled to put on muscle, he’s been very helpful with diet tips, and helping regiment my at-home workouts. He understands that no 2 people are the same and is able to adapt to fit your personal needs and goals. If you are considering a personal trainer for a good price, this is the place to go!

Came in with No Experience

I would highly recommend Jordan to anyone who is looking to improve their health, confidence and strength. I had no previous experience with weight training and Jordan made me feel capable and empowered right from the start. I’ve learned so much about proper technique and overall health, and he goes out of his way to make sure each session is fun, challenging and an overall positive experience.

Amazing Trainer!

I have been working out with Jordan since summer 2018, Jordan is an amazing trainer! He helps set individual goals/training programs for me and pushes me in each session. He is incredibly knowledgeable and happily and readily shares his knowledge. I ask a TON of questions throughout the programs and his easy going personality and desire to help me improve and understand makes each and every session enjoyable.
I am stronger, healthier and happier, not only physically but also mentally and working out with Jordan Rouse has been a huge part of this. If you are looking for a great trainer who will provide an individualized program for you, Jordan is your man!

70 and Back at it

At 70 years old it was time to regain some lost upper body strength and improve my over flexibility. Jordan is a great personal trainer willing to work towards all aspects of fitness. Highly recommend!!
